Join the mad tea party with the beloved characters of Lewis Carroll in The Wonderland Tarot, including The Mad Hatter (Fool), Alice (High Priestess), Humpty Dumpty (Sun), the White Rabbit (Judgement) and all the others. The delightful artwork by Morgana Abbey pays homage to the hand-drawn Victorian style of Sir John Tenniel, illustrator of the first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In this whimsical tarot deck the Minor Arcana suits are flamingos for Swords, peppermills for Staves, hats for Cups and oysters for Coins. In the spirit of the Alice books, as a nod to the Queen of Hearts, playing card suit marks are included on the Minor Arcana cards, so this deck may be used for traditional card games as well as tarot readings. This pocket-sized deck comes in a tin with a 56-page booklet.

Note from Chris Abbey & Morgana Abbey 2016 A lot changes over the years, and this deck remains a happy memory for us. If you knew it from before, we hope seeing it again brought you a grin, Cheshire Cat-like or not. If you are encountering this for the first time, we hope to match the grin. Thank you for all before and for all that is to come.

The cards are a small size, almost 4 inches tall and almost 2 and half inches wide. They feel very nice- silky smooth. I love the little tin, so happy they put the rabbit on the front of the tin!
The only thing I had a little trouble with was in getting the cards out, the rim of the box protrudes inwardly a tad, so I had to do some finangling. After you unwrap them there is no more problem. The cards all have the regular playing card symbols in the opposing corners, just as a standard playing deck would have, so they can be used for regular games such as Rummy, Spades, etc.
here are different names for the suits-
Spades/Swords ---- Flamingos
Clubs/Wands ----- Peppermills
Hearts/Cups ----- Hats
Diamonds/Coins or Pentacles ---- Oysters
The only spread in the book is the Celtic Cross. The LWB is little in size, but it is 55 pages, and every card is given attention, with the upright and reversed meanings.

When you open the LWB, You are immediately given the suggestion to read (or re-read) Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass - and make sure you get the copy that is illustrated by Tenniel because this deck is based on those drawings.

Wonderland Tarot in a Tin Chris Abbey Morgana Abbey 9781572818798 Books Reviews

I have been waiting for a reprint of this deck for years. the deck is smaller the the normal deck but easy to handle and the card stock is high quality. Images are bright.
I love that the imagery is plopped on top of traditional RWS backgrounds. It is a comical deck that reads easily if you are into reading RWS styled decks. The cards are great for people with small hands as they are easier to shuffle and standard playing card size. The tin is a great way to store the cards and overall it is a very unique deck. LOVE IT!
This is a strange little Tarot set! Not sure whethet i can read from them yet, but love Tenniel's illustrations! Plus, the esoteric aspects of all Tarot decks can be seen here. But, then, I've ALWAYS loved the Alice stories. Fun deck & far more profound than first impression indicates.
This deck and the "Halloween" tarot are two "novelty" decks which I have found to be useful without learning an individual authors own "system". Many novelty decks have so much individualization that your brain boggles-nice for looks-but not practical to use. The Halloween deck is especially close to the traditional Rider-Waite-Colman deck. I easily shift to it in October without a long "re-learning" session. The tin is very handy-especially for portability.
Wonderland tarot in a Tin, Chris & Morgana Abbey. The Wonderland Tarot turned out to be a veritable treasure of a Tarot. I really like the Alice in W. stories, and Chris & Abbey have really pulled it off ! They stayed close to the stories (they do advise to read the book before using the cards) - and the tarot really works as a Tarot! Well thought out. The cards are of good quality, the backs are beautiful, the dwgs indeed close to Sir John Tenniel's rendering of the org. dwgs. The tin itself is also quite lovely, I love how even the sides of the tin have been used for lovely little Wonderland coloured images. Full 5 Stars, well earned ! L.B.
I am beyond thrilled to finally have this tarot card deck! I ran across it 15 years ago and have wanted it ever since, but a recent search turned out that any remaining decks were going for $150! for fans of the Lewis Carroll this deck will truly delight you. It's an instant favorite. My tin came in perfect shape and I will probably purchase another set just in case something happens to this one.
Absolutely lovely in every way. The art is delightful, but I expected that because I was familiar with the original deck and had been jonesing for a copy of my own for quite some time. Finding out about this reprint was a wonderful surprise!

The deck is cohesive in the execution of the theme, which many themed decks are not. The LWB is not a generic LWB, and addresses each card as it is presented in the deck. Whether you use those interpretations or not (i often don't), I love a deck specific LWB. It enriches the experience of the deck significantly, and I appreciate the proof that the creators put real thought and care into their project.

The cardstock is thin, but not frail. It shuffles beautifully and is not that overly slippery plastic kind of cardstock.

And the tin is sturdy and adorable.

What's not to love? I mean, the swords are flamingos! How can you not love the suit of flamingos?!
